Tragically, Squadron Leader Wilmot was walking from the flight office to an awaiting aircraft on the tarmac when he was stuck--and killed instantly--by North American Harvard (#2556) aircraft.

During the Second World War he enlisted in the RCAF on 18 Jan 1940.

Son of Charles and Anna Wilmot of Belleville, Ontario, Canada; husband of Katherine Isabelle Wilmot of Brantford, Ontario.

--From 1913-1917 S/L Wilmot was employed as a salesman by the Ford Motor Company in Detroit; from 1923 to 1930 he was an assistant branch manager in Toledo.
--Serving in the RAF during the First World War, from 1917 to Nov 1919, he was a flight instructor. He was gazetted for the AFM in 1919, receiving it in Canada in 1922.
--In 1929 he was elected as Alderman and Executive Chairman of Belleville, serving as Belleville's Mayor in 1927.
--He was the Chief Pilot of the Handley-Page Mission to the Argentine, from November 1919 to 1921.
Possessing a private air pilot's certificate, issued in 1923, he owned his own aircraft.
--Effective on 5 Oct 1932, he was appointed to a Commission in the Reserve of RCAF Officers as Flying Officer. On 10 Oct 1939, he was transferred from this Reserve to the Special Reserve and, on 15 June 1940, was appointed Temporary Flight Lieutenant.
--He was promoted to Flight Lieutenant on 1 May 1941, and then on 1 June of that year he was appointed Temporary Squadron Leader.
--S/L Wilmot served at RCAF Camp Borden from 15 Oct 1939 before being transferred to RCAF Uplands on 12 Aug 1940, serving there until the time of his death.
--From 1934 to 1939, he served as the President/Vice-President to the Brant-Norfolk Aero Club.
In the Federal Election of 1940 he ran as the National Government conservative candidate for Brantford, but he was defeated.
--He was the Past President of the Belleville Golf & Country Club, Past Commodore of the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club and an Executive of Belleville's Chamber of Commerce.

Squadron Leader Charles Eardley Wilmot AFM is commemorated on Page 48 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
He is also remembered with love and honour on a family grave monument in the
Saint George's Anglican Church Cemetery in Newcastle, Ontario.
